The Selah Aquatic Center is hosting lifeguard training classes that will have you certified as a Red Cross Lifeguard in 2021!

Minimum Requirements

  • Be age 15 by the last class.

  • Pass the swim pre-test:  swim 300 yards (crawl stroke/freestyle and/or breaststroke), swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 pound brick from the deep end, and swim back holding brick at surface level with both hands in under 1 minute 20 seconds, tread water 2 minutes with no hands.

  • Complete the Online portion of the class: For the blended learning lifeguard training courses proof of online completion must be shown at first in-person class.

  • Attend all in-person sessions: Lifeguards must show maturity in decisions and responsibility in actions.  All classes must be attended and lifeguard candidates must be prepared for each session.

  • Pass the written test with 80% or better: One of the written tests is included in the online portion, the other is taken after the completion f the in-person water test.  Only two chances to pass this test will be available.  A study guide will be available prior to testing day.

  • Pass the in-water scenario tests: Each scenario must be passed in order to pass the lifeguard training course.  Two attempts are allowed for each scenario.  

Class dates:

  • Class #1:  Saturdays: May 8, May 15, May 22, and June 5  12:30 to 6:00pm - Class full

  • Class #2:  Weekday afternoons: May 10-27  3:00-5:00pm 

  • Class #3:  TBD - if interested, please email selahaquaticcenter@gmail.org

Renewal class for lifeguards with UNEXPIRED Certifications:

  • May 1 1:00-5:00pm
