The Bruce Buchanan Memorial (Selah) Aquatic Center will be hosting training classes to certify you as a
Red Cross Swim Instructor!

PLEASE NOTE: WE MUST HAVE AT LEAST 4 PARTICIPANTS BEFORE JUNE 12 TO HOLD THIS CLASS, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE CANCELLED.

Requirements

Be age 15 by the last class.

Pass the swim pre-test: swim 25 yards of each of the following six strokes: crawl stroke/freestyle, breaststroke, back crawl/backstroke, butterfly, side stroke, elementary backstroke, tread water for 1 minute, back float in deep water 1 minute. You must be able to swim each stroke with proficiency at the Red Cross Level 4 or better.

Complete the online portion of the class: Orientation must be done before the first class. Sessions are completed over the course of the training classes in the student's own time. Homework is required for this class.

Attend all in-person sessions: Swim Instructors must show maturity in decisions and responsibility in actions. All classes must be attended and instructor candidates must be prepared for each session. You also must work to improve your skills as the class progresses with the goal to improve as much as possible.

Pass the written test with 80% or better: The written test is taken after the completion of the class.

CLASS FEE $200 Must be paid before the end of the first class. This includes the Red Cross fee. There will be no additional fees.
