The Selah Aquatic Center will be hosting training classes to certify you as a

Red Cross Swim Instructor!

Minimum Requirements

  • Be age 16 by the last class.

  • Pass the swim pre-test:  swim 25 yards of each of the following six strokes: crawl stroke/freestyle, breaststroke, back crawl/backstroke, butterfly, side stroke, elementary backstroke, tread water for 1 minute, back float in deep water 1 minute.

  • Complete the online portion of the class:  Orientation must be done before the first class. Sessions are completed over the course of the training classes in the student's own time.  Homework is required for this class. 

  • Attend all in-person sessions: Swim Instructors must show maturity in decisions and responsibility in actions.  All classes must be attended and instructor candidates must be prepared for each session.

  • Pass the written test with 80% or better: The written test is taken after the completion of the in-person water test.  Only two chances to pass this test will be available.  A study guide will be available prior to testing day.
