The Selah Aquatic Center will be hosting training classes to certify you as a
Red Cross Swim Instructor!

Minimum Requirements

Be age 16 by the last class.

Pass the swim pre-test: swim 25 yards of each of the following six strokes: crawl stroke/freestyle, breaststroke, back crawl/backstroke, butterfly, side stroke, elementary backstroke, tread water for 1 minute, back float in deep water 1 minute.

Complete the online portion of the class: Orientation must be done before the first class. Sessions are completed over the course of the training classes in the student's own time. Homework is required for this class.

Attend all in-person sessions: Swim Instructors must show maturity in decisions and responsibility in actions. All classes must be attended and instructor candidates must be prepared for each session.

Pass the written test with 80% or better: The written test is taken after the completion of the in-person water test. Only two chances to pass this test will be available. A study guide will be available prior to testing day.

Cost for the class is $180 including registration with the Red Cross.
