The Selah Aquatic Center will be hosting training classes to certify you as a
Red Cross Swim Instructor!

Class dates:

​Spring 2024 class will begin in May 2024​​

Course materials are available online after registration.

The cost for the class is $150 including registration with the Red Cross.

You must attend all classes.

Dates:

May 5, 10 am-5:00 pm at Yakima Athletic Club; Pre-test and Lessons 1-3
-
May 19, noon-6:30 pm at our facility; Lessons 4-6
-
June 9, 10:30-4:00 pm at our facility; Lessons 7&8
-
June 16, 9 am-2:00 pm at our facility; Lessons 9&10, Practice with actual children, written test

Requirements

Be age 16 by the last class.

Pass the swim pre-test: swim 25 yards of each of the following six strokes: crawl stroke/freestyle, breaststroke, back crawl/backstroke, butterfly, side stroke, elementary backstroke, tread water for 1 minute, back float in deep water 1 minute.

Complete the online portion of the class: Orientation must be done before the first class. Sessions are completed over the course of the training classes in the student's own time. Homework is required for this class.

Attend all in-person sessions: Swim Instructors must show maturity in decisions and responsibility in actions. All classes must be attended and instructor candidates must be prepared for each session.

Pass the written test with 80% or better: The written test is taken after the completion of the in-person water test. A study guide will be available before testing day.
